What is Weatherization?

Weatherization is the process of assessing a residence for energy loss or waste and correcting the structure by installing measures that include air sealing, insulation, and energy saving appliances based on a list of priorities that have the highest savings to investment ratios.  In most cases, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.  The program also provides energy efficiency education, and addresses health and safety concerns.

Services we provide:

Energy-efficiency measures performed through the program include
  • Whole house air sealing
  • Wall and attic insulation
  • The repair and cleaning of appliances that create a health and safety problem such as carbon monoxide
  • Heating system improvements.
  • Effeciency improvements in lighting
  • Health and safety measures, such as the installation of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Water saving measures

At this time, weatherization services DO NOT include the addition of porches or stairs; the replacement of doors and windows, or the installation of storm windows, storm doors or screens.

*Please note:  All weatherization measures applied to homes are determined on a case by case basis.  There are many factors that go into determining what measures are applied, and no single measure is guaranteed.
