Tallatoona History

Tallatoona CAP, Inc. is a private nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Agency formed in 1967 in response to the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964, which kicked off the War on Poverty and authorized Community Action agencies all across the country.  Currently there are more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies covering the 50 states all working on behalf of the poor to root out the causes of poverty, meet the needs of low-income individuals and families and help families achieve economic independence.

Over the past 45 years we have grown from two counties to eight and have expanded our programs and services to include Head Start, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Weatherization, Community Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Health Related Services, and Holistic Case Management. The eight counties we serve include Bartow, Cobb, Douglas, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding and Polk, and range from rural to metropolitan.

Our eight county service delivery area has a population of approximately 1.3 million people with more than 150,000 living in poverty; many of whom are children, aged and/or disabled.
